I am the Artistic Director of the Rowers Pub Reading Series.

I  was the Artistic Director of the Art Bar Poetry Series, a reading series that occurs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Victory Cafe, 581 Markham Street (1 block west of Bathurst, 1 block South of Bloor).  I began my tenure June 1, 2002, and completed it June 30, 2005.

I have been writing poetry since the Fall of 1995, when I joined the Algonquin Square Table, a poetry workshop that meets at Hart House (University of Toronto). You can find my poetry in over 50 journals in Canada, the U.S., and Great Britain, including Analog, The Antigonish Review, Chiaroscura, Cicada, The Comstock Review, The Dalhousie Review, Descant, Grain Magazine, The Fiddlehead, The Harpweaver, The Literary Review of Canada, Lynx, Midwest Poetry Review, On Spec, paperplates, Point Judith Light, The Prairie Journal, RE:AL, The Rockford Review, Satire, Tales of the Unanticipated, and The Timber Creek Review. My poetry has also appeared in the following anthologies: The Stars As Seen from this Particular Angle of Night; Legacy; and The World Fantasy Convention 2001 CD-ROM.

I have hosted and organized an annual event as part of the Art Bar Poetry Series, in 2003, 2004, 2006, and 2007 called The Dead Poets Society, where readers read from poets who have passed on. The most recent was held December 11, 2007.
I am hosting and organizing the next one, which is Tuesday, December 16, 2008. There will be 15 poets reading for 5-6 minutes from the poetry of dead poets.

I am a panelist each year at Toronto science fiction conventions, Ad Astra, and Polaris (formerly TorontoTrek). I am also a regular panelist at Eeriecon, a convention held in Niagara Falls on the American side.

RECENT THINGS:

Falling

My poem Falling was nominated for two awards,
The Rhysling Award; and The Aurora Award.
Here is the text of the poem as it appeared in On Spec:
NOTE: click on the title "Falling" to get larger text.

Falling

It was 1969. I fell out of a tree. It was the year Armstrong and Aldrin set foot on the moon, Armstrong most notably, first. I have since fallen in love, many times, each time thinking it would last, and sorted all my poetry books by author’s last name. I have not told you this to make you envious, or jealous. This is a cautionary tale, how one boy tried to climb the sky with the side of a crib over one shoulder, and some string, how he fell to Earth, the last image in his mind, the moon against a light-blue canvas. Hospitals are a long way from the moon. People like you and me will one day be buried up there, and they will look down on our graves with hollow eyes. Elevators will rise up to orbit. A terminal will be there, shuttles to the moon every hour on the hour. Taking the elevator back down to earth, people will feel like they are falling. Share this with no one. Walk among the trees. Walk among the trees under the limbs that will taunt you, but let them. These limbs only want to embrace your lack of imagination, your doubt.
