Ryan's Childhood

no Tonka trucks
in his treasure chest—
he traded them in
for a Black Widow slingshot

summertime at the cottage
he slips between
the hands of parents
runs down to the pond
watches lily pads
collects stones

bull’s-eye: he shot a rock
across the pond—the frog
opened its mouth
taking it
for a dragonfly
